When humans colonize other planets how will that function when multiple nations are involved? Also will they retain allegiance(united states of mars/New Russia) or go independent after a certain point?

I'm guessing it will be a bit like Mass Effect, individual governments will be forced but for interplanetary or interstellar interactions it will probably be an alliance... Space exploration could bring humanity together, just like the Iss did in the 90s

I would think it to be like gundam wing's space colonies. Huge shelters that hold cities within them. I dont know how you could live on other planets.
